THE FIRM
We founded SLADE ARCHITECTURE in 2002 seeking to focus on architecture and design across scales and program types. Our design approach is highly collaborative both within the office and across client teams. Both of us are personally involved in the design and client interface on every project.
We strive to take a unique approach to each project. This approach is based broadly on the context and requirements of the project itself. More specifically we focus on issues such as the program, sustainability, budget, environment, public space, maintenance and the intersection of branding and architecture. Furthermore, we consistently deal with certain issues intrinsic to architectural design: the relationship between the body and space, movement, scale, time, perception, materiality and its intersection with form.
We have completed a diverse range of international and domestic projects and our work has been recognized internationally with over 200 publications, exhibits and awards. The Architecture League of New York selected Slade Architecture for the Emerging Voices Lecture series in March 2010. We have also been selected by the New York city Department of Design and Construction to participate in the Design and Construction Excellence program. We are one of three firms to have been slected every contract period since the projects inception.
Among Slade Architecture’s awards are a national AIA NY Small Projects Award, multiple NY AIA Merit Awards, Association of Retail Environments Store of the Year Award, Chain Store Age Best in Show Award, multiple Best of Year awards from Interior Design Magazine, Best of Year Award from Contract Magazine and Best of Year Award from Businessweek/Architectural Record. Slade Architecture’s work has been exhibited at the AIA Center for Architecture in New York, the Venice Biennale, Florida International University, the German Architecture Museum in Frankfurt as well as many other exhibits in Europe, Asia and the United States.
To us, successful projects are those that articulate the client’s goals with a simplicity and impact.
Best Regards,
Hayes Slade & James Slade
